Digital CCTV Surveillance System

Plaza Las Americas is a 2,100,000+ s.f. mall with three levels of retail shops, restaurants, entertainment, and multi-level parking garages and surface parking.  An 11-story office tower is also part of the mall.

Carpency and Associates, LLC established the system requirements, prepared camera location and field-of-view drawings, and interconnection wiring diagrams. C&A prepared a bid specification to install a digital video surveillance system using over 200 fixed and pan, tilt, and zoom cameras.  The system is networked using state-of–the-art digital video management servers and software, IP network switches, RAID storage devices, and a fiber optic LAN.  A new security system technical room to house the system electronics and new UPS unit was constructed. The security control room was renovated and a new security console with three operator’s workstations and a supervisor’s workstation was installed.  A restroom for the security force was also constructed.

In addition to preparing the specifications, C&A pre-qualified potential bidders, conducted a pre-bid conference, evaluated the bidder’s cost and technical proposals, conducted a bid clarification meeting, and conducted a formal presentation of recommendations to the owners.  C&A also reviewed design submittals, reviewed the system test plan, and observed system acceptance testing.  

Access Control Improvements

C&A assessed interior mall access control and provided a report with findings and recommendations and door location drawings. C&A developed the requirements and prepared the specifications and installation details to upgrade the mall perimeter and vehicle approaches to the mall.  The upgrades involved adding outer perimeter vehicle gates to be able to close all vehicle entrances to the mall from public roads, and the installation of bollards and planters near the close-in entrances to the mall buildings to mitigate the vehicle attack threat.
